The Rise of the Activist
Haverford, PA - Egan-Jones Proxy Services to sponsor corporate governance breakfast.
On Dec. 16th at the NYC Harvard Club, the Harvard Business Club of New York is hosting and Egan-Jones Proxy Services is sponsoring a breakfast (no charge to you) the title of which is "The Rise of the Activist". We expect approximately 100 people including many of the top investment firms. Are activists the new corporate raiders leaving corporations hollowed-out shells or are activist prodding neglectful managers into enhancing value and strengthening firms? Watch for the development of improved corporate governance guidelines and a more sophisticated means for measuring CEO compensation.
The moderator of the event will be Jeff Sonnenfeld who runs the Yale CEO Summit, which includes about 150 CEO's of the major firms. Dr. Jeffrey A. Sonnenfeld is Senior Associate Dean for Executive Programs. Dr. Sonnenfeld is an active Consultant to boards and Chief Executive Officer of major corporations on top leadership issues. Dr. Sonnenfeld is one of the nation's top experts in corporate governance and leadership and a regular commentator for most major networks and business publications.
Gregory P. Taxin is Managing Member of a new activist firm, Luma Asset Management and previously president of hedge fund Clinton Group, Inc., which manages $1.5B in assets. Clinton's activist investment program was recognized in fourth place in the "Activist Top 10" by Activist Insight that noted Clinton "is known for its mastery of company by-laws and intense focus on growth strategies". IR Magazine called Mr. Taxin one of five leaders of the "new guard in shareholder activism". Previously, Mr. Taxin was CEO of Glass, Lewis & Co.
